What A No Brainer!!
Wednesday, May 25th, 2011Skeptics 10… End Times Advocates 0 ( and still waiting ). For once I am on the side of those who doubted that the world would end last Saturday ….not because I agree in their belief there is no God ( therefore he wont return ) but rather I believe that the only human God has ever worked through since time began was his own Son Jesus.
I must qualify that by saying God does use believers to influence the lives of others, but when it comes to announcing his return to earth…. that he will never entrust that awesome responsibility to a mere human, or those of like mind.
God clearly tells us to be prepared for his return when that will be no one knows. Only that it will happen and we are warned to be prepared.
I think it would be fair to say that after the recent earthquakes in Japan, Chile and New Zealand, more people will take seriously the need to prepare for more earthquakes and natural disasters in the future, and the sale of Emergency Survival kits have soured.Water purifiers, torches, portable batteries, first aid kits and tinned food all have become important items to have at the ready in case of a disaster.
I also know from scripture that it tells us the Lord’s return will not happen until all the world has ” heard his word”.
Back in the 1980s I was fascinated with reading stories of Christians taking Bibles illegally into atheist countries….China, USSR , Albania and the like. Gods Smuggler is a book I still have along with many others detailing clandestine operations where individuals would often resort to taping bibles all over their bodies, in order to defy the local authorities at the Border .
Today it has changed so much….no longer is there a need to smuggle ….it is now possible to transmit to the world at the press of a button on a computer that is hooked up to the world wide web. And that in itself is an interesting story that I may write on in the future….how the World wide web has revolutionised the world.
There are 6,809 language groups in the world ( I remember being total when I was there (one country ) Papua New Guinea had almost 1300 of that total).Whilst in that case pidgin and Mutu were the mother language but there were so many sub language types….people living less than 500 metres were likely to have their own language that was total different to the next tribe literally within eye contact of each other.
50% of the worlds population is illiterate. In other words 50% of the world have never been reached, or received the gospel. In the past the only means of reaching the world has been by the written world. And that has been a recent phenomena….maybe some 500 years since the advent of the Gutenburg Press.
Interestingly if one relates back to the Bible there are more references to hearing Gods word ( some 1,800) and only 88 references to reading. And when we come to reading it was by reading out aloud .In ancient biblical days public reading was mandatoryI suggest you refer to 2 Kings 23:2-3.
Much of this information I am extremely grateful to Sandy Feit who wrote an excellent article ” Hear Now My Words”
So things have rapidly moved on….the written word, to Tape Cassettes, CD’S and now I pacs, Electronic library books and Cell Phones. And it is the cell phone that has and will bring the return of the Lord in a much more rapid time frame
Of the 6.7 billion beings on the planet Earth….25% are able to be reached by the Internet, while more than 70% can be reached now by cell phone. The year 2016 may be the time where it is possible for the whole world to hear the Good News Of Gods Word.
Whilst we were in Bogata Colombia last August we were given a Proclaimer….an Audio Bible ( In Spanish) that can reach the poorest and most disenfranchised people in the remotest of areas Similar to an old fashioned transistor radio in size , loud enough to be played to small to medium sized crowds, it is powered by electricity, Battery, Solar or if all else fails a 4 inch crank handle when if ” cranked” for several minutes will blast out for the best part one book of the Bible before having to be topped up again .
So I go back to what I said in the start no one knows for sure. The easiest way to avoid confrontation is to smileand accept their little piece of paper and use it to light your next fire. But if you want to react ask them on whose authority have they to claim xxxxxx date as being the day of the total destruction of the world….and if they say God said…. ask them to show them where in the Bible their name is mentioned along with the date it is going to happen.
As for the man that supposedly lost $140,000 in life savings printing the wrong date….if the so called founder of the Mistruth Ministry Inc were caring loving Christians …they would reimburse him will the millions of dollars extracted from the many thousands of Doomsday believers!!! And that dear friends is what makes the Merry Money Go round!!!!
I will write again soon.
Take Care
