A Perspective From On High.

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

I have often wondered what it would be like to look down on the earth from a  stationary position (or close to it).

I have never had the opportunity to go hot air balloning and whilst I have travelled  the world many times by aircraft….flying at 1,000 km an hour is hardly stationary. And besides travelling at such speeds at 1,000 feet would be an out of focus blur.

Well on Thursday I had the opportunity to to soar like an Eagle at something  like 450 feet ( 135 metres) at a speed of .026metres per second in complete comfort and safety thanks to the generosity of  our wonderful friends Colin and Mary….I am talking of the ride on the London Eye a simply incredible slowly revolving wheel  that is suspended high about London’s River Thames…..which must be one of if not the most spectacular river vistas in the world.

The statistics of this amazing apparatus makes impressive reading. Many massive cables hold this slowly spinning wheel firmly in place. Each cable weights 1.5 tonnes. The entire structure weights 1,900 tonnes. In the 30 minutes it takes to make on revolution you are able to see 40 kms…25 miles.

The view can only be described as stunningly spectacular…. And for once, I envied one of Gods smallest creatures who at anytime could soar to whatever height they chose to remain as long as they like to do what ever they chose to do.

I could have stayed up all day and even the next day it so breathtaking. It was impossible to take in everything there were so many buildings , roads, streets, cars, buses, trains and planes to watch with wide eyed facination. And that was before the colour changes ( it was early evening on a partly cloudy but blue skied evening with a very yellow sunset.)

I know that whilst I was pleased with my many digital photos that I had taken, they would never replace or exceed the wide eyed first time bewilderment of seeing this amazing sight first hand.

I am obviously not being paid to say this , but if you go to London England DONT miss the London Eye Experience. There is also a  marvellous walkalong the South Bank of the Thames that is both relaxing and enjoyable.

So how can I encorporate ” Wise Words of Wisdom ” into this blog. Well I must say I am struggling. But I will say this.

Sometimes you have to get above and beyond your normal line of vision to see and appreciate the full and true extent of the whole picture.By being on the ground I saw only a tiny part. It is the same as with finance, you need to remove yourself from the centre point of your financial perspective.

Long before satelites and weather ballons, those who forcast weather would climb to the highest peaks every day to see what the weather was likely to do.

They became very good at predicting the weather, especially when they started taking notes of what the weather had been like in the past.

I think everyone should in a lifetime climb to a point high as they can possibly can manage to marvel at the wonderment of Gods creation  but to see and be enthralled at seeings they may never have imagined to be there in the first place.

I will return soon to earth to continue to write the Wise words of Wisdom!

Take Care
